Apply to return to a University managed property 2026-2027

Applications have closed

Accommodation applications for returning students open at 12 noon on Monday 2 February 2026 and close at 11.59pm on Monday 9 February 2026.

Students can apply for either managed properties or halls of residence, but cannot apply for both.
Successful applicants will be notified by email on Monday 23 February 2026.
Students with an offer are given 7 days to accept or reject the offer.
Unsuccessful applicants will be informed by email on Monday 23 February 2026.
Successful applicants must confirm acceptance and provide references by 5pm on Wednesday 4 March 2026 in order to secure a tenancy.

If you are applying as a group of students
If you are applying to live together as a group, you will need to agree a group leader.

The group leader will apply first on behalf of the group and generate a group code. To apply as the group leader, you will need to:
1. Log in to the using your student ID and date of birth
2. Click 'Create application'
3. Read the welcome information and click 'Continue'
4. Select 'Group' and click 'Next'
5. Select 'Yes' to the question 'Are you the group leader?'
  The system will generate a group code. Note this down to give to your other group members.
6. Input the information for each group member (student ID, first name, last name and email address)
7. Select the residence your group would like to apply for, and select that you prefer University managed property
8. Complete the further preference options (this is on an individual basis and not for the entire group): each group member will fill in their own preferences
9. Check that the information is correct and submit the application
Once the group leader has submitted the initial application, each group member will receive an email with the names of the other group members and the group code. Each group member will then need to:
1. Log in to the using your student ID and date of birth
2. Click 'Create application'
3. Read the welcome information and click 'Continue'
4. Select 'Group' and click 'Next'
5. Select 'No' to the question 'Are you the group leader?' then put in the group code you have been given by your group leader and click 'Validate code'
6. Complete the further preference options (this is on an individual basis and not for the entire group): each group member will fill in their own preferences
7. Check that the information is correct and submit the application
Once all group members have submitted their online applications, the group leader must send a single email to propertyservices@st-andrews.ac.uk.

The email needs to be with us by noon on Friday 13 February 2026 with the following information:
- all group members' names and student ID numbers
- group application code
- list of properties you wish to apply for in order of preference
Properties will only be allocated to groups who have each submitted an online application with the correct number of applicants for the size of the property.

How students are allocated

There are no priority groups for managed properties, however, the following will be automatically rejected for a returning place:

students who have been evicted from any University accommodation or have received a written warning that has stated that they will not be eligible to reapply for University accommodation
students with long-standing residence fee arrears.

A ballot will be held for each property and notification will be sent out to all groups on Monday 23 February 2026 with each successful group being asked to confirm acceptance and provide references by 5pm on Wednesday 4 March 2026 in order to secure the tenancy.

If you do not submit references by the given deadline, the offer will be withdrawn.

References should be from a current or previous landlord or from a warden of a current hall of residence along with a character reference. References should not be from a parent or other family member.

After you apply

If you are offered accommodation, you will have 7 days to accept and secure the tenancy.

If you accept the offer, you are entering a legally binding contract. Please see section 6 of the Terms and Conditions of Occupancy.
