ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Prize for the Environment winner 2022

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the 2022 ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Prize for the Environment is Misión Tiburón for their community-based project to protect and restore blue carbon sinks. Misión Tiburón will receive a $100,000 cash prize to further their efforts in the Hammerhead Shark Sanctuary in Costa Rica.


Cost of living package

The University has outlined a package of measures designed to provide practical support, financial help and information for students and staff affected by the cost of living and energy crises.


Industrial action

The Proctor outlined upcoming UCU strike action at the University in a recent email to staff and students.


Honorary Graduates

Singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading, violinist Nicola Benedetti and Labour Peer Lord Alf Dubs are joining more than 1100 students who are graduating at the end of the month.

Launch of Kaleidoscope Alumni Network

University hosts First Women UK portraits

The First Women UK collection is being hosted by the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø this winter. It features portraits by acclaimed photographer Anita Corbin and celebrates Britain’s modern female pioneers who achieved a first in their field.


Principal and Vice-Chancellor’s trip to the US

Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Sally Mapstone recently visited New York City and Washington DC. She was joined in New York by Professor Christian Rutz at the Explorers Club where he gave a presentation about his latest research on animal-tracking tags. In Washington, Principal Mapstone was joined by alumni, parents and friends of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø at the British Embassy where she gave a talk on the latest University updates.

Service of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty the Queen

The University is holding a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on Saturday 26 November at 2pm in St Salvator’s Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Chaplain, Revd Dr Donald MacEwan and will be livestreamed Worship - Chaplaincy - University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (st-andrews.ac.uk) If you would like to take part in the academic procession to the Chapel, please gather in the Hebdomadar’s Room by 1.45pm. Sustainable ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø merchandise

The University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Shop has collaborated with Teemill to provide a sustainable way to make bespoke merchandise for Schools and halls.  Our new range is made with certified organic cotton, renewable energy and materials diverted from landfill to provide fashion with no waste.


Aldi extends partnership with Saints Sport and University Rugby Club

ALDI UK – the lead sponsor for the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Rugby Club since 2014 – has renewed its sponsorship deal with Saints Sport for the academic year 2022-2023. As part of the deal, ALDI UK will support the career progression of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students.

London event: Phillips O’Brien on Ukraine

Join Professor Phillips O’Brien – Head of the School of International Relations at the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø – in London on Tuesday 6 December at 6pm. This is a rare opportunity to hear about his research and his analysis of events currently taking place in Ukraine. There are only a few places remaining.

Join us in person or online for this year’s ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Alumni Carol Service on Wednesday 14 December at 7pm (GMT) in St Salvator’s Chapel. The Service will be conducted by the University Chaplain – Revd Dr Donald MacEwan – and the carols led by the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Renaissance Singers.


To join online, visit the Chaplaincy’s website at 7pm (GMT) on Wednesday 14 December, select ‘Livestreamed services’ and then the ‘View livestream’ link.


Join us afterwards for a festive drink at the Old Union Coffee Shop.

General Council

The next meeting of the General Council of the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø will take place on Saturday 26 November at 10.30am in Parliament Hall, South Street, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø KY16 9JU. Tea and coffee will be available from 10.00am.


The Chancellor, Lord Campbell of Pittenweem, will preside and the Principal, Professor Dame Sally Mapstone, will deliver the University Address. In addition, there will be a presentation by the Vice-Principal Education (Proctor) entitled: ‘Is it for better or for worse? How the pandemic has changed teaching and assessment at the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪.

SaintsFunder

We continue to shine the spotlight again this month on the . This project is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Boat Club and building on its past achievements by fundraising for a new senior racing eight. This will help the next generation of rowers to compete at the highest level of UK university rowing.
