ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

Cinema ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is a local cultural history project, which explores and promotes all aspects of cinema in ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, from the earliest exhibition of film in 1895 to recent Bollywood productions shot in the town.

What it does:

The  includes articles on more than 35 topics – from early photography shops in the 19th century, to the production of Chariots of Fire in 1980 – researched by staff and students in the Film Studies department. In showcasing local cultural heritage, the project also presents film seasons, exhibitions and other public events for local audiences.

Led by Dr Tom Rice, Cinema ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø works closely with students, who are directly involved in researching and presenting these histories. Collaborators include:

• local museums including ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Preservation Trust Museum, which staged an exhibition on local film history
• international organisations, including Alfred Dunhill Links Trust, which collaborated on a photographic exhibition at the Old Course Hotel
• local schools, presenting this material in classroom teaching
• film societies and venues, including churches, cinemas and community cinema groups
• archives and practitioners.
