From 8 to 10 of July 2026, Patricia Lopez Sanchez Cervantes, PhD Candidate in Museum and Heritage Studies, and Research Assistant of the EDGES project, co-organised the EDGES Symposium, Unsettling the Museum: Thinking Thorough Indigenous Entanglements, alongside their thesis supervisor Dr Bruno Brulon Soares.

Behind the scenes, Museum and Heritage Studies MLitt students Chaney Phillips, Abigail Wetmore, Verity Wray-Raabolle, Abby Lowe, Whitley Dasinger, Marlène Bartschi, and Charlotte Thompson, provided invaluable support in the planning and delivery of the event.

The Symposium brought together Indigenous and non-Indigenous curators, artists and academics from institutions across Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Australia, the United States, France and the UK for three days of dialogue on decolonial curatorship and museum practice.  Mapuche artist Neyen Pailamilla's performance, "Mi Cuerpo es un Museo" (My Body is a Museum), set the tone for the Symposium, inviting the audience to think of the body itself as a site of memory and history — before any object ever enters a museum.

This event was a reminder of what postgraduate research at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø can look like: not confined to a thesis, but connected directly to an international community of practice.
