{"id":17,"date":"2017-09-28T10:45:16","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T10:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/sasp\/?page_id=17"},"modified":"2025-11-26T16:18:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T16:18:50","slug":"the-sasp-degree","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/sasp\/the-sasp-degree\/","title":{"rendered":"SASP Degrees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and Stirling Programme (SASP) offers different graduate degrees together with the Conversion Diploma.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/sasp\/the-sasp-degree\/postgraduate-diploma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conversion Diploma<\/a> is designed for applicants with a good undergraduate degree that is not in Philosophy. It consists of a year of undergraduate Philosophy coursework. Satisfactory performance on the Conversion Diploma may lead to the MLitt or MPhil.<\/p>\n<p>The standard route into SASP is via our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/subjects\/philosophy\/philosophy-mlitt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MLitt programme<\/a>, which consists of two semesters of coursework and a dissertation. Satisfactory performance on the MLitt may lead to the MPhil or PhD.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/sasp\/the-sasp-degree\/mphil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MPhil<\/a> is a two-year masters degree. It consists of the MLitt coursework, followed by a fifteen month period of research writing a dissertation of typically 30,000 to 40,000 words.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/sasp\/the-sasp-degree\/phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PhD<\/a> is (typically) a three year research degree.
