Licensing procedures for centres and institutes

The majority of research at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø takes place within academic Schools, however, large research projects can form as centres or institutes. The University currently has more than 45 licensed centres and institutes, around one third of which are interdisciplinary.

Definitions

Centre
A grouping that is based purely on research collaboration
Institute
A grouping that is based on research collaboration and also provides undergraduate or postgraduate teaching or both

Current licensing procedure

Proposals for new centres or institutes should be completed on the standard form downloaded from this page and emailed to the Vice-Principal (Research, Collections and Innovation) through Research and Innovation Services at ris@st-andrews.ac.uk. Each proposal should be supported by an email or letter from the appropriate Head of School and Director of Research. Emails of support need to reach us within 14 days of an application.

Centres and institutes are reviewed annually by Research and Innovation Services on behalf of the Vice-Principal (Research, Collections and Innovation).
