Biography
Shiona was trained as a labour process theorist in the department of Human Resource Management, University of Strathclyde and she was awarded her doctorate in 2010. She has worked in the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø School of Management since 2009 and her research is aligned with the Organisation and Society thematic group.
Shiona serves as the University's Associate Dean for Students (Arts and Divinity).

Research areas
Shiona's research field is the sociology of work and employment, concerning the social relations, codes and practices that inform people's working lives and the organisations within which these unfold. Earlier in her career, her research employed the sociology of professions in various contexts including the changing nature of graduate employment, and the working lives of Information and Communications Technology professionals. Current research interests are located in the Institute for Capitalising on Creativity, focusing on the creative industries. Recent projects have used Bourdieu's sociology, and the sensitising concepts of field, capitals and habitus. HERA and AHRC funded projects have examined the Scottish indigenous textiles industry (Enterprise of Culture), and the role of design in entrepreneurship (Design in Action).
