Research areas

I am a paleoceanographer who specialises in the application of foraminiferal isotopic (δ13C,Ìýδ18O,Ìýδ11B) and trace element (Mg/Ca, B/Ca) proxies to understand the evolution of Earth's climate and carbon cycle in the geological past. I have acquired a particular interest and expertise in Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) and early Paleogene (Paleocene-Eocene) climate change and carbon-cycling.

I am working with Dr James Rae within the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Isotope Group (STAiG). My current active project involves creating orbital-resolution trace element andÌýδ11B records spanning the past 100 million years from multiple deep-ocean sediment cores recovered from the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Southern oceans. I am also co-supervising two Masters projects with Prof. Dick Kroon focused on applying trace element proxies at higher resolution to understand climate change and ocean acidification during the late Maastrichtian warming event and early Paleocene Dan-C2 event.
