Scotland's Tertiary Enhancement Programme (STEP)

) is the new national enhancement programme for the Scottish tertiary sector, running from 2024 - 2028, and taking over from the previous Enhancement Theme. STEP is one of  main delivery mechanisms and is underpinned by the TQEF principles. STEP is designed to enable Scotland’s colleges and Universities to work together to improve and enhance learning, teaching, the student experience, and staff development.

The topic for the first cycle of STEP is Supporting Diverse Learner Journeys. There are six funded projects (of varying scale) across all participating institutions.  The programme is articulated into three distinct phases; Discovery (year 1), Implementation (year 2), and Reflections (year 3).  We are currently in year 2 of the cycle (2025-2026).  The focus of this year is to launch the projects planned during year 1 of the cycle.
