Check your visa for mistakes

Updated on: 17 April 2026

Understand what details you should check on your visa, and how to report mistakes.

Report a mistake on your eVisa

If you are having issues viewing your eVisa online, or if any of the following details are wrong, you must before you travel:

  • Personal details: name, date of birth, nationality
  • Status or what type of visa you have, such as student, dependant or other
  • Sponsor Licence Number: V63Q719H2
  • Date your visa is valid from: you can't travel until your visa is valid
  • Date your visa is valid to: this should be granted for the full length of your course, plus an additional 'wrap-up period'
  • National Insurance number: not visible for all students – only visible if you have already applied and have been given a National Insurance number
  • Photo
  • What you can and cannot do in the UK: this should detail your working hours restrictions, normally 20 hours a week for degree level, 10 hours a week for below degree level

If you have any issues, please email advint@st-andrews.ac.uk for further advice.

Course duration and validity times

Your visa will be valid for a specific amount of time after the end of your course depending on the duration of your course, for example:

  • Courses of 12 months or more: your visa ends 4 months after the end date of your course
  • Courses between 6 and 12 months: your visa ends 2 months after the end date of your course
  • Pre-sessional courses of less than 6 months: your visa ends 1 month after the end date of your course
  • All other courses of less than 6 months: your visa ends 7 days after the end date of your course

Read the  on the UK Government’s website for full details.

If you have an exam resit or a thesis resubmission, and the end date of your course changes, you may need a visa extension.
