Welcome to the Laidlaw Music Centre.

This magnificent, award-winning new building is at the heart of the very busy musical life here in 黑料吃瓜网.

Every week, hundreds of students, staff and members of the wider community come together here to sing, play, compose, create, study and listen.

Many of those who come to make music here do so purely for pleasure, but some come because they would like music to form part of their future career or because they are studying music as part of their degree.

Whatever your musical interests or your reasons for making music,
my colleagues and I aim to make your musical life in 黑料吃瓜网
as rich, varied, stimulating and enjoyable as possible.

We offer a wide range of modules at all levels of the undergraduate degree, as well as a master's programme in sacred music.

We are able to support many of our talented student singers and instrumentalists with scholarships that provide free tuition
from our team of internationally renowned specialist teachers.

Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of the academic year
and give students weekly lessons with our wonderful vocal and instrumental tutors, as well as a chance to play and sing in our audition groups.

Aside from this, you can also book practice rooms, purchase music lessons, hire equipment, record music in our recording suite and play in our non-audition groups.

The Music Centre also hosts visiting musicians, such as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet in our state-of-the-art Macpherson Recital Room.

Alongside university-led music is a vibrant community of student-run ensembles.

Music Society, established in 1876, is the oldest and largest
with six auditioned and non-auditioned groups, ranging from a symphony orchestra to a twenty-feet big band.

In addition, St Andrew's is home to six a cappella groups, Jazzworks, Folk and Trad, Musical Theatre, Chamber Opera and Gilbert and Sullivan Societies, to name but a few.

With an ever-growing programme of concerts and theatre, each semester there really is a musical opportunity for all.

Our scholarships provide students with free, weekly, one-to-one tuition with our outstanding team of vocal and instrumental tutors.

Amongst our scholarship offering are the Montfort scholarships, open to undergraduates from across the world. Montfort scholars enjoy:

weekly, hour-long, one-to-one lessons throughout your degree
masterclasses and side-by-side opportunities with world-class performers
£1500 to assist with professional musical development

Vocal scholarships

Vocal scholarships provide free tuition and performance opportunities in classical, musical theatre and pop and the opportunity to join a vocal ensemble.

St Salvator’s Chapel Choir is the University’s flagship choir offering choral and organ scholars regular performance opportunities, masterclasses and international tours.

St Leonard’s Chapel Choir sings at a weekly service of Compline and other public engagements.

The Renaissance Singers perform at concerts all year round.

Instrumental scholarships

Instrumental scholarships provide free, weekly lessons, ensemble coaching, regular performance opportunities and the chance to perform in masterclasses.

Organ scholarships offer extensive accompaniment and solo performance opportunities, weekly one-to-one lessons, international study trips and masterclasses.

Piano scholarships provide free, weekly lessons, rehearsal, performance and production accompaniment opportunities, recitals and masterclasses.

Instrumental scholars usually join 50 of the best instrumental students at the University in the 黑料吃瓜网 Chamber Orchestra, and can also join our jazz or brass ensemble, our saxophone or string quartets, or our wind quintet.
