Terms and conditions for Music Centre scholarships and bursaries

  • Congratulations on being awarded a scholarship or a bursary. This document outlines the conditions of your award:
  • All recipients of a scholarship or award are expected to fully engage with the opportunity. Attendance at all lessons, rehearsals, services (Chapel Choirs only) and concerts is expected.
  • All recipients of a scholarship or bursary are required to become a member of the Music Centre (as does everyone who uses Music Centre facilities). This involves paying a membership fee. We reserve the right to remove the award made to any student who does not pay the appropriate membership fee.
  • The duration of your lesson depends on your award, as does the nature of any weekly ensemble coaching. If you are unsure what your award entitles you to, please ask us for clarification.
  • We expect you to respond promptly to all communications relevant to your scholarship award, including scheduling lesson times, rehearsals, concerts and events.
  • You are obliged to advise us immediately if you are running late for any engagement, are unwell or have unexpected clashes. Should circumstances mean you cannot fulfil the obligations of your award, you must inform us immediately.
  • Although we are usually able to offer the lessons, coaching or activities intimated, there are occasional rare circumstances that hinder us from doing so. Should an award be only partially fulfilled, no recompense of the full value will be offered.
  • We expect you to make the most of the award and any extra opportunities when they arise. We are very experienced at helping students juggle academic commitments. If you have any concerns about your workload, please talk to us. We are aware that certain times of the year are busy, so we try as far as possible to schedule opportunities and activities to avoid clashes and excessive short-term workloads.
  • If you are taking a practical music module, your award will be primarily used to help you prepare for the assessment requirements of that module. If you are worried about the balance between the demands of your music module and extracurricular music commitments, you should talk to your teacher or a member of Music Centre staff.
  • All bursaries and scholarships are subject to periodic review to ensure recipients are able to benefit fully from the opportunity. In some circumstances, awards may be amended or withdrawn. Decisions of the Music Centre in these matters are final.
  • Scholars and award recipients should be aware that rehearsals, services, concerts, and other activities connected with their award may be audio- and/or video-recorded from time to time. You understand and agree that these recordings may be used by the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø for academic, educational, archival, promotional, and publicity purposes, including (but not limited to) teaching materials, online learning platforms, websites, and social media including live streaming.
  • In addition to the details provided in the University privacy notices for students, the basis for use of your personal data when performing in events, is contract i.e., as part of the bursary conditions, it is expected that you will participate in choir recitals during lessons, rehearsals, services and concerts. Your personal details will be used to administer and manage those events.
  • By accepting an award, recipients consent to such recording and to the use of their image and/or sound recording for the purposes outlined above. Recordings will be used in accordance with relevant data protection, copyright, and privacy legislation.
  • Any award recipient with specific concerns regarding recording or use of materials should raise these with the Director of Music.
